Samuel McIntire and the Art of Furniture Carving in Salem

Samuel McIntire (1757-1811) was responsible for carving some of the most admired and important pieces of Federal period furniture produced in America. This lecture will explore this aspect of his extraordinary career in relation to his work as an architect and interior designer. Curator Dean Lahikainen is the author of the award winning publication, Samuel McIntire: Carving an American Style; he organized the first exhibition devoted to McIntire’s carving career in 2008.
